Vasily Pavlichenko is a main character in the manga Golden Kamuy. He is a skilled sniper, introduced as a guard at the Russian-Japanese border, (which existed when the story takes place in 1908.) After breakout character Ogata Hyakunosuke out-sniped him and shot him in the jaw, Vasily deserts the military to chase him down and win over him in a sniper duel.
Vasily survived the Ainu gold hunt and is last referenced as having drawn a painting of a lynx -- representing Ogata as he laid on the ground after shooting himself in the head, which happened in the final chapters of the manga.

Ogata Hyakunosuke/Vasily Pavlichenko is by far Vasily's most popular pairing (coupling in Japanese). Their rivalry is primarily on his end, and traveling from northern Sakhalin to Hakodate, located on the tip of Hokkaido, just to out-snipe him, can be interpreted as him conflating many feelings. It is not Ogata's most popular pairing overall, as Ogata Hyakunosuke/Sugimoto Saichi is the most popular pairing in the entire fandom.
His second-most popular ship is the rarepair Vasily Pavlichenko/Sugimoto Saichi [杉ヴァ (Sugivasi)], which pairs him with Sugimoto Saichi.
