The Fire and the Rose is a Beauty and the Beast (TV) illustration by Beth Blighton.
There were 250 copies of the original printed. It measures 11x17.
It appears to be part of a series called "Warriors." It is unknown if it ever appeared in a zine.
Presented to Ron Perlman
At the November 1990 Creation Con in New York City, one BNF artist presented her racy illo of Vincent Wells to Ron Perlman while he was on stage:
Beth Blighton then stood and told Ron that she had something for him that she was pretty sure the Make a Wish Foundation would not want. She then presented him with a framed print of her latest full-color portrait of Vincent entitled "The Fire and the Rose", the one with the loincloth, sword and crystal. Ron looked at it and commented "Talk about a flight of fancy!" Everyone was shouting, "Show it!" He replied, "I'm gonna show it, I'm gonna show it. Settle down!" He looked at it again, then asked, "Are we sure we're ready?" "Yes!" from the crowd. He looked at it one more time, then turned it around, and the audience went wild! "I'll put that in a safe place! I'm going to put that right over my refrigerator." (Looks at it again.) "MMMMmmmmm! Well, it was a fantasy series." [1]
Beth Blighton presented him with a framed color mostly-nude portrait of Vincent carrying a spear entitled "The Warrior." There was a collective gasp throughout the auditorium as she carried it up onstage; but he reacted wonderfully (if blushingly). "Talk about a flight of fancy!" he exclaimed, laughing. [2]
Fan Comments
Now, if you want to talk about the "sensual Beast" and what do I think about that aspect of Vincent -- my comment is simply (Long, straight from the heart, sigh) "yeahhhh!" (OR [plug, plug] read my fanzines "Flame and Shadow 1 and 2." OR take a peek at Beth Blighton's "The Fire and the Rose!" (Warrior 1); OR put all of his clothes back on and just imagine Vincent, moving toward you through the soft glow in the candlelit Tunnels, walking in that marvelous sensual way that is his alone. I think you'll get the drift. [3]
