The Emperor is an NPC in Baldur's Gate III.
Canon
The Emperor initially manifests as a mysterious "dream guardian," whose appearance is specified by the player at character creation (the default being a female Drow). They communicate with the player character (and other party members infected by an illithid parasite) through their dreams, and claim to have extended protection from the influence of the Absolute to the party.
It is later revealed that the mysterious dream guardian is a mind-flayer/illithid who goes by the moniker, "The Emperor," though even later on, the player can discover that The Emperor was once Balduran, the legendary founder of the city of Baldur's Gate.
