Talk:Side by Side (Star Trek: TOS zine)
Open Doors import of Side By Side : Missing Artwork as of August 8, 2020
After extensive searching and help from many people, most of the Side By Side e-zine has been recovered. The main loss is artwork, and while a lot has been recovered and obtained from alternative sources, there are still many artworks that have not been found. For completeness, I've listed what's still missing @ August 8, 2020. If you think you can help with missing art please let me know.
I have marked with * artists I've contacted but who are unable to provide a copy of their work. Sahviere (talk) 04:22, 14 June 2019 (UTC)

TACS' Art
I see there is a lot of art by TACS attached to his zine. What is the best way to link it to her gallery on Fanlore? Direct images? A link only? Is the art posted to this e-zine have different rules than with a print zine? Not sure how to proceed... Mrs. Potato Head 17:16, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
re your comment about not being able to access certain zines: I'll try to access the remaining zines and see if I can add them. --Morgandawn 18:48, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
Re: one of the fanartists. I suspect that the Helen linked here is a different person from Helenish, the fanwriter. Does anyone know more about this person? Should she be linked to Helen (Fan Artist)? Helen should probably be changed from a redirect to a disambig page.--æthel 05:02, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- That is a good idea, and I assume the Helen in the T'hy'la (U.S. fanzine) article might be the same, and there she is listed once ambiguously and once for poetry if I understand it right, so I think maybe distinguishing as and artist may be not ideal. Maybe as Helen (Star Trek fan)? IDK. A disambig would be also needed because searching for "Helen" in this wiki shows a Helen Montgomery, a Helen Potter, a Helen Olson, a Helen Sneddon, a Helen McCarthy (the latter two also mentioned in TOS zines, so I don't know whether maybe one of those may be this Helen), a Helen B, a Helen Cutter, a Helen Morgan (also in Trek, as a Surak Award winner), a Helen Raven, a Helen Merrick, a Helen Woolverton (who may be the Helen W. that is listed in others), a Helen L. W., a Helen Adams, a Helen Leithead, a Helen Parkinson, a Helen Patrick, a Helen Dye, a Helen Bookman, a Helen Connor, a no-last-name Helen doing S&H zine art, a Helen Pettigrew, a Helen Charlotte Hill, a Helen Commodore, and that is just on the first two pages. Then there is the Joan of Arcadia character, and probably other characters as well.--RatCreature 10:03, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
Site might disappear
Just wanted to give a heads up that the links for SBS may start disappearing even though at the moment they are archived by the Wayback Machine. It seems like certain major domain groups are putting robots.txt which also removes previous archived pages. Meaning the wayback machine will not be able to pull it up. Not sure if it'll happen and if so when, but there's been discussions about this on the Wayback Machine's forums. Not sure if we could archive it elsewhere or what. But I figured someone should know.--Shivohn 00:23, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
- Yes this has been an ongoing problem since 2009 and the Internet Archive is are unlikely to change their policy. It is possible to WebCite a WayBack Machine page, but this is labor intensive. However, Kardasi's site is extensive and crosses many fandoms so it would be worth documenting the pages. For example, I just documented (as best I could) the Harry/Snape Fuh-Q-Fest. Perhaps we can divvy up the sections? --MeeDee 05:19, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
- That sounds like a good idea. At least we would have some sort of record. I'm going to go through what's already listed on for SBS and add the Art citations...and then maybe start on the Slash Advent Calendars? And people can fill in on what's missing? Another possibility at least for the KS stuff is whether it could get shifted to KS Archive? --Shivohn 12:51, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
- What I can do is create WebCites for the SBS and Slash Advent pages which you could then add to Fanlore? I'll also email Kathy R to see if the K/S Archive can add some of the stories. I'll then focus on the non-trek sites on Kardasi. I haven't been able to confirm that Kardasi is one of the parked websites with a no robots.tx file (but it seems likely given the company that now owns it." --MeeDee 14:08, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, I would defintely be willing to help out with that. I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing so please bear with me. I've been hit with robots.txt for some of the Slash Advent stories which is why I mentioned it. Saving it on KSA would work or if someone could compile each zine and upload it into a collection on AO3. That could work just as well. I'm sure people would volunteer and if not, I would be happy to volunteer since I would like to see them be archived. --Shivohn 15:23, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
- Great! I'll work on the webcites this weekend. I am not certain how long they'll hold up, but they'll certain be better than nothing. You can see how I am applying the webcites here - For Side by Side (and possibly the K/S Advent) you'd be adding one for each story. I do know that the A03 will accept 'at risk" archives, but you'd need to get the archivist permission to move the stories over. Is Lady Kardasi still around to ask?--MeeDee 15:39, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
- You might want to ask either Kathy R. or Killa. I'm pretty sure it was run by Kira (kira-nerys), and she did have an LJ but I don't know if she's still around. I could try messaging Greywolf since he does have an LJ and his stories used to be stored on the site. And I could send a message via Kira's LJ and see if she responds. --Shivohn 15:49, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
- I sent a message to Kathy R last night. Let me know if we hear back from Kira since she'll be the linchpin for formal archiving.--MeeDee 16:48, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
- According to Greywolf, no one's has heard from her since 2006. He says to go ahead and archive everything and worry about getting permissions later...Thoughts? --Shivohn 14:27, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
- Email me? I am chatting with Kathy R about Side by Side. I heard back from the Smallville challenge moderators about their plans to mirror Clexfest.--MeeDee 17:57, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
- Not sure if resurrecting old threads is frowned upon, but did the idea of archiving as much of SBS as could be saved go anywhere? I've been searching most of the KS archive/story sites I can find, and haven't found anything yet that looks even close. --Sahviere
- Thanks for the info! You mentioned in 2012 that you were talking with Kathy R about Side by Side, did anything much come from that? I have found what I hope is an up to date email for Lady Kardasi, and am contacting for permission to archive to AO3. --Sahviere
