Talk:Richie Tozier

Do we combine things like Canon Character/Reader, Canon Character/OC into one page? Or would they have separate pages? Same for Canon Character & OC relationships? Do we only create those pages if there are a certain number of works to be shown for it? Would the page specifically look like this: Richie Tozier/OC? Jacksbrak (talk) 02:40, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

I don't think we have a set way to do this already but what makes sense to me is:
* Reader fic and OC fic may have some overlap in your fannish experience but in mine they're really different (esp because many readerfics do that y/n thing?) so if tthey're both prevalent I would expect them to have separate pages.
* Also I definitely do think that pages for these kinds of ships makes sense if it's a big trend in the fandom, because it's good to document it!
* I'd prefer Richie Tozier/Original Character maybe but that's probably open to discussion
* I'm a little more uncertain if gen ships with OCs should have pages, but I guess if you think there are obvious trends/tropes/themes that could be talked about that page then yeah?
* Also maybe worth mentioning, if you find an OC that a bunch of authors are using you could make a page for that OC, too.

Hoopla That makes sense to me! I just wanted to make sure... re: them being documented separately. I also think you're right about Richie Tozier/Original Character being the better option. Thank you so much! Jacksbrak (talk) 10:27, 29 January 2020 (UTC)
generally, since every fic features what is, in effect, a different character? unless there's some fairly common larger trends (the clear distinction between Muggle and Wizards OCs in Harry Potter, for example) or a "shared" fanon character like Elyza Lex, it's probably better to just say something like "Dean Winchester/You is common in the fandom, usually with a female reader although male reader fics can also be found." not that you can't make the page, necessarily, just that because both oc fic and reader fic are such wide nets sometimes there's not really anything to be said beyond the fact that it's popular to ship a character with ocs and if that's the end of it, then a page might not be necessary to document it.
i agree with Hoopla that Richie Tozier/Original Character is preferable - generally, whatever is closest to the canonized tag on ao3 is better unless there's a specific name for something. as for overlap, oc fic and reader fic are separate but it may be possible to combine reader fic with imagines if that's popular within a fandom since they tend to be a subsection of reader fic. like the reader fic version of Not!fic. in some fandoms they're not necessarily related to reader fic though, so ymmv with that one. - flyingthesky (talk) 20:50, 30 January 2020 (UTC)
Jacksbrak, you might find our Help page on naming conventions useful: Help:Naming Conventions.
Also, I think naming choices (especially for ship pages) are going to be one of those eternal topics of debate because everyone has their own opinion on what's best, but I wanted to throw it in there that we don't always name ship pages according to AO3 tagging conventions. Fanlore's only rule is that we try to reflect what's commonly used in the fandom. I know a lot of people like AO3's style of ship naming but I'm always wary of suggestions that it's the best way because it honestly depends, and Fanlore isn't AO3. So I think Richie Tozier/OC is fine as a page name (though I also agree with Flyingthesky that there's probably not going to be a lot to say on a page about an OC pairing). --enchantedsleeper (talk) 22:01, 30 January 2020 (UTC)
