Layout

Having our top-level layout for this page be by a bunch of different media types seems like it might be confusing. Might it makes sense to organize it more like https://fanlore.org/wiki/List_of_Harry_Potter_Relationship_Names#Ships or https://fanlore.org/wiki/List_of_MCU_Relationship_Names with top-level distinctions being slash, het, femslash, etc? -- FBV (talk) 00:04, 16 January 2023 (UTC)
I like them being split up by slash, het, gen, etc. The characters stay pretty consistent across most TMNT series, there is also Leo, Raph, Donnie and Mikey, plus Apirl, etc. I think if there are any big changes between the ships (I think Casey Jones is a girl in the newest iteration) we could add a little note beside the ship -- Kingstoken (talk) 00:16, 16 January 2023 (UTC)
So something like Casey/April would be labled Het, Sapphic[Rottmnt] to the side? Or Leorai with Age Gap[Rottmnt]. Stuff along those lines? -- MillieLow (talk) 01:29, 16 January 2023 (UTC)

Terminology

AttentionGardeners |because= I was wondering if the page could be frozen until we can have a little more discussion about what should be on the page

As a general rule we don't use terms like Pedophilic, Incest, etc in relationship lists. Also, I don't see much point in splitting up these pairings into all the different series, unless there is something drastically different about the characters, like a gender change -- Kingstoken (talk) 00:13, 15 January 2023 (UTC)

I agree 100% re not seeing much point in separating lists for different series.
There’s also no need for tables with no ships listed (i.e. the N/N and N/S tables) OR simply lists of character pairings without a separate ship name (i.e. N/N tables). As people add ships, they can add to the tables (there’s no need for placeholder rows), and MilliLow, any listing of “X Character is often paired with Y character” where it’s just character names not a separate ship name, can go on that character(s)’ pages.
Also I know you changed the table formatting so we are using headers for Slash, Het, Sapphic, etc., so there’s no more need for the “type” as the far right column on the tables - I know you didn’t add it back, but making that point here for future editors. I understand the concern, but wouldn't warnings of canonically Pedophilic and or Incestious Ships be helpful for people new to the fandom? Does the warning go against the rules Fanlore has about bias? I'm completely fine with it having to go if it really needs to.
The series specific things are kinda clunky and it's probably fine if the more obscure series are taken off. But some of them do change the relationships between characters. Like Rise of the TMNT and the 2012 series, both the Aprils and Caseys are aged down to teenagers. While every other series has them as fully grown adults. I think for situations like that series specific additions would be useful. Also yes Cassandra "Casey" Jones is the genderbent version of the commonly male Casey Jones. -- MillieLow (talk) 22:46, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
The paragraph at the top talking about tcest and how not all fans are a fan is sufficient for those who are concerned about that, and it is not the practice of this wiki to apply this sort of label to lists of ships. In terms of expected categories and columns, see pages like https://fanlore.org/wiki/List_of_MCU_Relationship_Names and to get an idea of common practice here. I've cleaned up the layout a bit and removed these labels, as well as collapsing certain categories - ex, as long as TMNT Mirage Comics has no ships in it, breaking it down by slash/femslash/het, etc, is not particularly useful. So, for versions of this fandom with just one or two ships listed, I've compressed it down to one table and the "type" column is now used for het, slash, femslash for readability. This has the effect of removing many empty tables, though there are still lots of empty tables here due to the media type fandoms (ex, "2003 TMNT TV Series") that have no ships in them yet. The effect of this will be to substantially improve readability without removing information due to removing many empty tables. -- FBV (talk) 23:37, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
Alright, the new layout is perfect and defiantly has the desired effect of simplicity and being understandable. Also would "Age Gap" be a good tag to use in the type category or should we just keep the types to only sexuality related? -- MillieLow (talk) 01:37, 16 January 2023 (UTC)
The type field is reserved for Het, Slash, Femslash, Poly, Non-Binary etc. Age gap wouldn't be appropriate as it refers to a trope that may not appear in all fanworks in that pairing. For example, writers could include an age gap where there wasn't one in canon, or age up/down one character to reduce the canon age gap. Also there may be debate in fandom about the canon ages of characters and not everyone might agree if an age gap exists. So, with all that in mind, we really can't include tropes in the type category.--Auntags (talk) 01:00, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
