Talk:Dragonriders of Pern

Actually, McCaffrey has relaxed her rules a *lot* in the last few years: http://annemccaffrey.net/index.php?page_id=20 . At this point, she pretty much just wants to be clearly acknowledged, she wants to be sure that no one is making a penny, and she doesn't want "pornographic sites". --Arduinna 20:06, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

List of Publications

Can we cut this, and instead just have a link to her own page, or her Wikipedia page? I'd rather have a list of "works that influenced fandom".

This seems like a better approach. I mean, she's written a lot, but I don't think Acorna's Story has really made an impact on fandom.--Betty 01:39, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Merge

There's an Anne McCaffrey page with which some of this content could be merged: For example her rules on fanfiction would apply equally to all her properties, right? --Betty 02:03, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

My understanding is that she has (or had) various rules specific to Pern, particularly roleplaying. But certainly, we should avoid duplicating content across articles. -- Kdcat 02:37, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Still needs more fandom?

Well, I've added a lot. I'm probably going to add some more stuff continually, but I think this page more accurately reflects my own experiences in the fandom now.

In particular, if anyone was involved with filking in this fandom, or the actual fanzines, that would be great. I'm approaching about fifteen years active, but that stuff was still before my time. I noted during a database search that there are two different Moreta filks mentioned already - they're almost certainly Pern songs, anyone who can crossref that would be awesome.--Skywaterblue 17:22, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

I removed the "needs more fandom" notice. It's much more balanced now. Thank you! :) --Doro 18:50, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

Okay, maybe we'll want to split this into two pages now

McCaffrey has a LONG history of periods of relative leniency and then C&Ding her fans. (I should know, I got one at like, sixteen. Welcome to fandom, baby.) If we're going to cover the long history of Pern's rules and stuff, we might want to add such topics as Dee Dreslough and T. Mossberg--Skywaterblue 20:24, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

It has kinda become it's own topic. Maybe a separate page is a good idea. Folks? --Mrs. Potato Head 20:35, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
added a page about mossberg - The Pern Plushie Incident. MeeDee (talk) 06:38, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

Filk

Someone has started to dump their Pern (and other related fandom) filk on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/weyrdmusicman ! Unfortunately, I know NOTHING about filk, so someone with a keener eye will need to add the details to this material. It's a great resource.--Skywaterblue 06:18, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Reworked the page on 1/23/11

Yes, I deleted a bunch of stuff. Since Pern is an ancient fandom much crusty with canon details (like Trek or Doctor Who) but far less well known than those two the focus should be on canon details that help explain something about how the fandom is experienced and ONLY THOSE. People can go to the other wiki or read the books for the rest.

IE: there are a lot of details about the Weyrwomen because many fans have taken the position of inventing their own Weyrwomen, or fighting over who the Weyrwoman for the club was, etc. Harper Hall gets a notice because there's so much filk and so many people who wanted to be Harpers. I included the names of the canon Weyrs so people reading it can connect it to the development of fanon club weyrs and the MUSH servers. So on and so forth.--Skywaterblue 19:13, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Remove publications list?

It's not clear we need to list every book in the series when Wikipedia already does this and is more up to date[1]. It's a very long list and takes up a lot of screen real estate. OK to delete?

On a related note, it would be good to link to or further describe the meta discussions about the canon details in the Dragon section.--æþel (talk) 15:05, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

I'll take the books off. There's no need for them to be here on this wiki. --MPH (talk) 19:24, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
