Sir Mordred is a character in Arthurian Legend and one of the most popular characters in the Arthuriana fandom. He first appears as Medrawt. In earlier stories, he is King Arthur's nephew who absconds with Queen Guinevere; later, he becomes Arthur's son by incest with his sister Morgause. He has a varying number of siblings: most often his brothers Gawain, Agravaine, Gaheris, and Gareth, but sometimes also sisters, like Clarissant. He is typically portrayed as an antagonist but sometimes portrayed sympathetically.

- Mordred appears on BBC Merlin as a magical druid boy who grows up to become a knight who turns against Arthur after feeling betrayed by him. He is not said to be related to Arthur.

Mordred is a very popular character among fans. Portrayals of him range from a Draco in Leather Pants-esque glamorous bad boy to a Sad Wet Cat to a Force of Chaos and Evil to a Sunshine Child [1] to some combination of the above or something entirely different.
Mordred is most often shipped with Sir Galahad. Galadred is the most-tagged ship in the Arthurian Mythology tag on Archive of Our Own.
Since Mordred's birthday is on May 1st in Le Morte D'Arthur, many members of the fandom celebrate his birthday then, with art, writing, moodboards [2], memes [3], or simple "Happy Birthday, Mordred!" messages. "Morbid Month of May {May King Mordred}" was the first prompt in Tumblr's May Day Parade 2024. [4]
