Galadred is the common name for the ship between Sir Galahad and Sir Mordred, the most-tagged ship in the Arthuriana fandom on Archive of our Own.

Though they do not interact in canon, many fans are drawn to their potential to act as foil characters.[1] [2] They have a number of parallels: Galahad is the illegitimate son of Sir Lancelot and Mordred is the illegitimate son of King Arthur,[3] both are marked before birth by prophecies about their destinies, and both contribute, intentionally or unintentionally, to the downfall of the Round Table. However, whereas Galahad is held up as a paragon of spiritual purity and a Chosen One, Mordred is often seen as wicked, traitorous, and conniving.

One poll suggested that the majority of the fandom believes that if Galadred had been canon, it would have saved Camelot, though there was not a common consensus as to how.[4] Some fans have criticized the relationship as homophobic in basis,[5][6] though this is a minority opinion in the fandom and some, including non-Galadred shippers, have criticized this as being linked to a trend in which the online Arthuriana fandom became more exclusive over time.[7] Others have argued that the ship is not necessarily homophobic in basis but that it is frequently portrayed in a way which plays into homophobic tropes in fics.[8]

The ship dates back at least to 2012.[9]
