Rapunzel is the protagonist of the Disney film Tangled, its sequel Tangled Ever After, and its television spin-off Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure (formerly, Tangled: The Series) and Once Upon a Time. She is also a supporting character in the video game, Kingdom Hearts 3.
Canon
Rapunzel is kidnapped by Mother Gothel as an infant and raised in a tower. She longs to see the lights that appear on her birthday every year, and when she meets Flynn Rider she convinces him to take her to the lights, and they go on an adventure together.
In the TV series Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure Rapunzel gets her magical golden hair back, and goes on further adventures with her friends.
Rapunzel also appears in the Kingdom Hearts 3 video game.

As the main character of the most popular Disney release in years, Rapunzel has always experienced a steady stream of ships. Of course, the canon ship with Flynn Rider is by far the most common, however pseudo-incestual ships with Mother Gothel exist, often in a one sided nature.
Rapunzel's prevalence in The Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons crossover fandom sees her shipped plentifully with the likes of Jack Frost, Astrid or Merida, while her role as a Disney princess sees the inevitable femslash ships with any other princess, among which Merida, Elsa and Anna are among the most common. Het crossover ships involving Rapunzel and another Disney prince are lesser seen, but still exist. The most likely candidates would be Kristoff and Hans from Frozen, due to the close release dates of the two films.
Other pairings include Cassandra/Rapunzel from Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure.
Common Tropes and Themes
Rapunzel's healing abilities often play a part in ships involving her, both in a sexual manner and non. Similarly, her long hair often plays a big role, be it someone tripping over it and subsequently stumbling into a romantic situation, or getting tied up with it. Both are fairly prevalent, especially among hair fetishists.
Links with Disney's Frozen and Fan Theory
Rapunzel and Eugene were seen attending Elsa's coronation, which has led fans to speculating that perhaps they could be related. The vague likeness between the Queens of Corona and Arendelle supports this theory, as does the relative distance of the countries Corona and Arendelle are based on (Germany and Norway, respectively).
The accepted theory is that the King and Queen of Arendelle were on their way to attend Rapunzel's wedding to Eugene when their ship sank three years before the events of Frozen. Tangled was released (roughly) three years before Frozen, so it's a very feasible theory.
