Nym has been active in online fandom since 1996 and from 1985 offline.
A lifelong sci-fi fangirl, Nym discovered fandom at 13 through Robin of Sherwood fan club newsletters.
She wrote, contributed to, edited, and published print fanzines and fan club newsletters between 1989 and 1997. Pre-internet fandoms included Doctor Who, Star Trek, Star Wars, Blake's 7, The Tomorrow People, and Beauty and the Beast.
Her first pseudonym online (between about 1989 and about 1999) was "Worstwitch (WWitch)".[1] Her first online fandom was VR.5, followed by Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys/Young Hercules, Harry Potter, Petshop of Horrors, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe, and Once Upon a Time. Most recently, she returned to her roots with Doctor Who fanfiction.
Nym typically writes fanfiction that features a romantic or sexual pairing. She wrote notable fanworks for the Harry/Snape, Leon Orcot/Count D, and Belle/Rumplestiltskin pairings and is credited with writing the first Buffy/Giles work posted online. She was an early contributor of fic about the Giles/Ethan pairing.
Nym's works were once archived at amplexus.org.[2] Before that, they were hosted on several different, short-term free and budget web hosts, moving on as these shut down (Geocities, Tripod) or became hostile to fanworks or adult content. She also posted fanworks and meta discussion to mailing lists, newsgroups, forums, and small chat communities. These often focused on a single character or pairing.
Buffy Mailing List
If anyone is interested, "Worstwitch" has a fledgling adult Buffy fanfic list going. It's a manual list, with so far 55 members (this is a brave woman!), she says "mostly from the U.S.", so maybe some of you are already on it. Anyway, if you're interested write ... Be sure and put "THE NAKED PLACE" in your header. Give her some sort of statement saying that you're over 18 and you know that the list is "adult".
She has the Buffy/Giles "Passages" story on it so far - which BTW had another segment tacked onto it to finish it off that wasn't available from the Web. She doesn't mind if anyone wants to do a sequel to this story, or to do their own thing, whether it's Buffy/Giles, Willow/Giles (Gad, I'd never thought of *that!*) or Xander/Giles (which I admit I
- have* thought of!) and she'd love contributions. It sounds promising, as she says characterization is important to her. Giles with pretty much anyone is the desired story element, and she is not averse to slash. [3]
