Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (墨香铜臭, Mòxiāng Tóngxiù) is the pen name of a Chinese danmei writer and the author of three highly popular web novels that have acquired large fandoms, been translated into English (officially) and have been adapted, or are in the process of being adapted, into other media.
Her works are:
- 人渣反派自救系统, Rén zhā fǎnpài zìjiù xìtǒng (English: The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System)
- 魔道祖师, Mo Dao Zu Shi (English: The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation or The Founder of Diabolism), which was adapted into the popular live-action TV drama The Untamed
- 天官赐福, Tiān Guān Cì Fú (English: Heaven Official's Blessing)
The original serialized versions of MDZS and SVSSS were reported to Jinjiang Literature City for content violations in January 2019 and have been locked ever since.[1] TGCF was locked on October 29, 2021.
Both international and domestic fans refer to Mo Xiang Tong Xiu as MXTX. The fandoms for her three popular danmei novels are also sometimes collectively known as MXTX fandom, as people often become fans of more than one work. Some fans write crossovers, and "MXTX" challenges and zines have been organized.
Rumors have circulated online that MXTX was arrested in May 2019 for illegal publishing/distributing pornography (that is, selling uncensored physical copies of her BL novels[2]). The rumors remain unconfirmed, with many fans disputing them, but the author was not heard from for over two years. According to one fact check, her weibo became active again around the same time as the person thought to be her was released on parole late October/early November 2021.[3]
