The Hole in the Deck Gang Newsletter was a 1-page (printed on both sides, dense, tiny print) newsletter of mostly con reports and articles. This newsletter had a particular focus on/for gofers. There were to be 16 issues as advertised in Menagerie #10, but this series actually ended at issue #12.

The newsletter's goals: "To help convention committees as much as possible with the running of a gofer-squad, and if possible, to recommend a list of area members of the HDG to those concoms requesting it. And to see that gofers are treated fairly, not overburdened with work and are allowed to attend the convention they've paid to see."

Issue 1

The Hole in the Deck Gang Newsletter 1 was published in March 1974.

It includes a chapter from "Adventures of Mary Sue" where the character from A Trekkie's Tale meets a gofer.

Issue 2

The Hole in the Deck Gang Newsletter 2 was published in May 1974.

There was a con report for Equicon held in April, and a con report for Minicon held in Minneapolis/St. Paul.

It includes a chapter from "Adventures of Mary Sue."

Issue 3

The Hole in the Deck Gang Newsletter 3 was published in June 1974. It has a long, long letter from Bjo Trimble.

Issue 4

The Hole in the Deck Gang Newsletter 4 was published in July 1974. [

It includes a chapter from "Adventures of Mary Sue" by Chen.

It has two letters and a review of Alan Dean Foster's book, "Star Trek Log One."

Issue 5

The Hole in the Deck Gang Newsletter 5 was published in August 1974.

It includes two con reports for Star-Con.

Issue 6

The Hole in the Deck Gang Newsletter 6 was published in December 1974.

It includes a con report for DisCon #2, and Kwest Con '74, WondayCon.

It includes a chapter from "Adventures of Mary Sue."

Issue 7

The Hole in the Deck Gang Newsletter 7 was published in March 1975.

It has a con report for Confusion, the fourth International Star Trek Convention, Wonday Con #2, Chambanacon #4.

At Chambanacon #4, Boldly Writing quotes: "The...sf crowd simply do not like Star Trek, or at the very least, merely tolerate it.... And they have a perfect right—for the [sf fans] are legitimate. The Trekkies aren't—yet, and may never be until original Trek fiction is not treasured to the bosom because the genre's dearth makes even crud appealing. Until Anna Mary Hall, or Ruth Berman, or Laura Basta can get their byline on a real paperback, trek fiction will not be accepted and neither will trekfen."

Issue 8

The Hole in the Deck Gang Newsletter 8 was published in June 1975.

It contains a photos and a con report for Ourcon '75, Equicon '75/FilmCon #3, and a letter from Bjo Trimble that intends to dispels rumors about the movie.

This issue has another report from Minicon, a general SF con in Minnesota from Paula Smith: "Saturday, Joan Verba and I shared [a] table.... We weren't the only obvious Trekkies there, but we were all treated as fen...."

Issue 9

The Hole in the Deck Gang Newsletter 9 was published in November 1975.

It has a con report for Ourcon, Rekwestcon, Fanfair #3, and BeneciaCon.

It includes a chapter from "Adventures of Mary Sue."

Issue 10

The Hole in the Deck Gang Newsletter 10 was published in January 1976.

It mentions the Klingon Diplomatic Corps, a group of fans who dressed up as Klingons and helped run security for cons. Their duties included making sure fans did not crowd celebrity guests, ensured that fans lined up in a quiet and orderly manner for autographs.

This issue is mostly made up of a con report for Chicago ST Con.

Issue 11

The Hole in the Deck Gang Newsletter 11 was published in February 1976.

It has two con reports for the International Star Trek Convention at the Statler Hilton in NYC and a very short explanation of filksinging.

Issue 12

The Hole in the Deck Gang Newsletter 12 was published in June 1976.

There is a con report for Star Trek Lives!, see that page.

There was a con report for SeKWester*Con, and the Boston Star Trek Convention.

In this issue was the announcement that this newsletter would cease with issue #16. There were, however, no other issues.
