Duv Galeni is a secondary character in the Vorkosigan series by Lois McMaster Bujold. Originally a historian, he becomes the first Komarran to enrol in the Barrayaran military, despite his aunt being murdered in the Solstice Massacre and his father being the terrorist who created Mark Vorkosigan. He famously gets dumped by Laisa Toscane for Emperor Gregor Vorbarra, but swiftly consoles himself with Delia Koudelka. Introduced in Brothers in Arms, he has an important role in Memory and a smaller one in A Civil Campaign.

Fandom

Galeni's interesting background (Kate refers to him as everyone's favorite child-terrorist-turned-history-professor-turned-security-officer[1]) makes him a relatively popular character in fanfiction, at least compared with his 'screentime'. Much Galeni-centric fanfiction is gen, with common topics including his decision to join the Imperial Service and to change his name. His historian side is often foregrounded, for example, with him visiting historical sites or seeing historical artefacts. His first meeting with Aral Vorkosigan, especially the fallout from the Solstice Massacre, is another common topic. A few works explore his background before he joined the Service.

He has occasionally been paired with a range of characters, including the canonical Laisa & Delia in het, and Miles Vorkosigan, Ivan Vorpatril, Guy Allegre & Aral in slash. Except in the context of the Duv/Delia ship, he's often referred to as 'Galeni'.

Authors known for writing the character include Philomytha. Fan art appears to be relatively rare.

Link with Avon

His appearance & character in Brothers in Arms is rumoured to be based on Kerr Avon from Blake's 7. Sarah Thompson writes:

A character named Duv Galeni, who bears a very strong resemblance to Avon, appears as Miles's superior officer, complete with passages reminiscent of scenes from "Rumours of Death" and "Blake." I think there's influence from fanfic as well; "nutmeg" as a term for eye color has got to be lifted from Susan Matthews.[2]
