Con Rad was a multi-fandom science fiction and fantasy convention held in October 1995 to benefit two charities: The Nature Conservancy and the Pediatric Aids Foundation. Over 80 stars and writers from 30 TV shows and movies appeared, each donating their time and forgoing typical appearance fees.
Con Rad owed its existence to hotel problems surrounding the Battlestar Galactica convention the 15 Yahren Reunion. As a result of those problems, the hotel offered to host a second charity convention for free.
Programming included question and answer panels with the stars, writers and producers, presentations and autograph signings, a charity auction, movie previews, the Sci-Fi Universe magazine Readers Poll Awards and banquet, a dealer's room, Roger Sides' collection of prop and costumes, and weekend long tournaments of Magic The Gathering and other card games.
Actors and writers from Alien Nation, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica , Beauty and the Beast, The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr., Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Deep Space 9, Greatest American Hero, Highlander, Interview with the Vampire, Kung Fu: The Legend Continues, MacGyver, Lost in Space, Logan's Run, Red Dwarf, Star Trek: TOS, Star Trek: TNG, Star Trek: Voyager, Space: Above and Beyond and Wonder Woman appeared.
