Category talk:Science Fiction Authors
Since you've already got People and Industry categories as the parents to this category, there's no need to include those categories on every page. I can modify the person template to allow us to switch out the category that's automatically included.--aethel (talk) 19:41, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
- Sounds good to me. Some people weren't already tagged as "industry;" I found some who weren't tagged as "people;" I assumed anyone who's an SF author should show up on both of those searches as well. (Although maybe they just show up under the SF Authors category at top, and "category:people" is only those who aren't also part of another category? I find it frustrating to not be able to get a count of how many "people" pages exist.)
- I didn't add people or industry categories to any pages, but I didn't remove them either. --Elf (talk) 22:15, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
- OK, I'll edit the template. If all non-fan people have been given the person template, you can look up the number at Special:MostTranscludedPages. Currently we have 340 people and 2,328 fans. :P (I found that special page only just now; I check out the list of special pages any time there's a number I think the wiki ought to be able to tell us.)--aethel (talk) 23:21, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
Propose renaming to make it clearer that it included SFF more broadly?
I know the category description explains that SF here is "interpreted broadly to include Fantasy and some Horror stories" but can we change the category name to make it more clear? I always get surprised when I go looking for the category. -- Quaelegit (talk) 23:45, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
- What do you the the category name should be? "Science fiction authors" is common in the industry; "speculative fiction authors" might work? (Would need a redirect, and possibly a general page on science fiction that talks about the history of the genre and points to multiple categories and the scifi-vs-media-fans debates and so on.) - Elf (talk) 01:13, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
Do TV Scriptwriters belong in here?
I'm trying to merge this category with Category:Professional Authors, and there's a few people in here (e.g. Eric A. Stillwell) who seem to have only worked on TV scripts. I'm not sure whether to add them to the Professional Authors category or not. What do people think? -- Quaelegit (talk) 00:57, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
