Could this category be renamed to Category:Fanart by Year to match Category:Fanfiction by Year? I know there's a pattern of having subcategory names of [Fandom] Art, but I think categories with just "Art" in them are potentially ambiguous without a specific fandom qualifier. --aethel (talk) 21:05, 5 September 2022 (UTC)
- I vote for the name change. --MPH (talk) 12:20, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
- Renamed to Category:Fanart by Year. I assume the [year] Art subcategories should also be renamed to [year] Fanart?--aethel (talk) 01:29, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
- I'm fine either way, but my only worry is if we change it to fanart instead of art does that mean we are also going to have to change all the other art categories? Example: Category: Marvel Art or Category:Star Trek TOS Art, that would be a hell of a lot of image files to have to change the categories on. It might just be easier to make it Category:Year Art, to keep it consistent, and save a lot of time. -- Kingstoken (talk) 22:15, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
- I don't think we need to change the specific fandom art subcategories. I'm not sure why they were created as "Art" instead of "Fanart", but now there are so many it doesn't seem worthwhile. I'm more concerned with the general non-fandom-specific categories; if the categories are for fanart, we wouldn't want official movie posters in Category:2022 Art, etc. On the other hand, the potential confusion may be very slight and not worth the bother of changing the pattern. --aethel (talk) 00:15, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
- I've been assuming that those "<Specific fandom> Art" categories implicitly mean (fan) art, given Fanlore's unofficial preference for fanart over official art for visual examples. So I don't think they need to be re-named? Whereas, for "Fanart by Year", I do like making "fan" more blatant in the name. So I'm not a gardner or anything, but I also support the idea of renaming all of these "by Year" categories, while leaving the Fandom-specific art categories as is. -- Quaelegit (talk) 04:12, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, it seems like most people are in favour of changing it to Category:Year Fanart, so I will start changing them all, which may take a little while, unless someone has one of those hand bot things that could do it -- Kingstoken (talk) 16:43, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
