Category talk:Costuming

Subcategories

Should we start subcategories based on fandom for the images, example Category:Game of Thrones Costuming or Category:Dragon Age Costuming, etc? Or is it too soon? We have roughly 145 files currently, which isn't massive, we could wait til a later date to decide -- Kingstoken (talk) 14:32, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

This seems like a straightforward proposal. It would make sense to create these fandom-specific sub-categories before this category fills with more images and the work becomes more labour-intensive. My only suggestion would be to use "cosplay" instead of "costuming" in the category names. Although I do understand these might include images of costume design and construction and not just cosplay (i.e., modelling costumes). I just think "cosplay" is the more familiar term to fans. When I hear "costuming" I tend to think of costume and wardrobe design in film and plays. Night Rain (talk) 23:56, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

i'd say "cosplay & costuming" because cosplay and costuming are... two different things and it's actually really gross to lump them together into a single term? honestly i'd even say they should be two separate categories the way we have Category:Vids and Category:Anime Music Video because they're two distinct fannish spheres with very different histories that have only recently started to colloquially be the same thing. cosplay is about recreating a specific character, but things like ren faires, labyrinth masquerade ball, general historical costuming, etc. don't have that requirement. - flyingthesky (talk) 22:13, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

Indeed, Cosplay & Costuming seems much more viable for this category. Fully comprehensive as to the various types of cosplay and costume. I vote for this option -- Ellakbhesse (talk) 18:57, 10 March 2022 (UTC)
