Submission guidelines for issue #1:
I am now actively seeking submissions for this zine. I am eagerly anticipating stories from energetic, young, and talented writers. Oh heck! Even if you're old and tired, give me a try. But, please, if you want a return reply, send an SASE! Deadline is September 1, 1992. [1]
Summary from Media Monitor #34:
A K/S zine featuring the talents of such established writers as Gena Moretti, Linda Frankel, Karla Kelly, Anna Parrish, and revealing new talent; St. John. Mergwin, Higgenbottom. Rooney. A jug of wine, a loaf of bread (wheat of course), and this zine...what more do you need? Comedy, drama, poetry, limericks. No harshness.
- The Fog by Mergwin ("Kirk finds himself in yet another alternate universe where heʼs married to McCoy instead of bonded to Spock, but must find that universeʼs Spock in order to get home.") (1)
- Asunder, poem by Linda Frankel (1)
- Tricked by Sunlight, poem by Linda Frankel (2)
- Sacrafices (sic), poem by Martha Shortgraves (3)
- Forever and a Day, poem by Martha Shorgrabes (34)
- Becoming One, poem by St. John (39)
- Virgin Territory by St. John & Anna Parrish (some Mirror Universe humor. "Mirror-Universe sex farce (believe it or not). Despite his reputation and his legendary organ, Kirk of the ISS Enterprise is a virgin and, because of the fearsome grandmother in his head, won't remedy that until he's married. Things come to a crisis and Spock takes advantage of the opportunity to have a shotgun wedding.") (39)
- First Sight by Gena Moretti ("At their first meeting, Spock realizes that he and Kirk are soulmates, but must wait for Kirk to come to the same realization.) (49)
- Reunited by Anna Parrish (A/U: The events of STIII, from Kirk's pov and taking into account that the men were bondmates. After fal-tor-pan, much of Spock's memory, as well as their bond, has been lost. Sarek asks Kirk to leave without Spock, but Spock rejoins the Bounty as they prepare to leave.") (72)
- Secret Yearnings, poem by Jessie Eden Brown ( 101)

[zine]: This zine is insufficiently edited, but a pleasant enough read. [2]
Issue 2
Candlelight and Flames 2 was published in 1993 and has 180 pages.
The art is by Todd Parrish, and there is one cartoon by Seaview.
A submission request:
CANDLELIGHT AND FLAMES #2 is two-thirds filled. We have an interview with St. John and a new story by him. We have several writers, new to C A F but not to K/S fandom. We would like to get this baby out by March 1993. Candlelight and Flames was lucky enough to make contact with two remarkable artists. Todd Parrish (no relation to me), and Seaview. We have a few surprises as well. This zine will be totally different from any other you've ever had in your hands. Have you been turned down by other editors? Are you afraid or too lazy to do re-writing? If the answer to the first question is yes, and the answers to the second and third are loud no's, give us a try. Don't forget your SASE if you want your story returned. Please enclose a #10 SASE as well just in case we like your idea. All unused envelopes will be returned with your contributor's copy. I try very hard not to nit-pick. [3]
This issue had a story contest:
THE RED FIELDS is a mystery. Simply finish this K/S story in any way you see fit. If you're feeling especially creative, add a prologue. The best five will be published in the next issue of Candlelight & Flames. When requesting this story, two things are required: 1) an age statement 2) one 9 x 112 SASE with 3 stamps. [4]
From the zine:
"Ye olde editorial paige.... Nothing in this book was meant to infringe on anyone's copy rights in any way, shape or form what-so-ever, so please don't get your dandruff up or itching. Thank ye most kindly, sir.
- A Kiss is Just a Kiss by Karla Kelly ("Spock asks Kirk to explain to him how humans are able to differentiate between types of kisses after seeing Uhura kiss Kirk on his birthday, giving Kirk the opening heʼs been waiting for.") (1)

- Iowa by Anna Parrish ("Kirk is thrown into the past with no memory.") (5)
- Horoscopes, just for fun (24)
- Matters For Discussion by T'Kuhn ("After two nights as lovers, Kirk and Spock part and wait twenty years to speak of it again.") (25)
- limericks with special guest appearance by Antonia Stampfel (34)

- The Desert Responds, poem by Linda Frankel (39)
- The Game by Smack ("Caught in the turbolift with Kirk, Spock remembers everything missing since the fal tor pan.") (40)
- Interview with St. John (the author of a story in this zine) ("It has nothing to do with fandom, but you do find out he makes bad coffee and would like to move to Wisconsin.") (43)

- Winner Number One: Llgumba by T'Kuhn ("After finally allowing a meld between them, Spock discovers that Kirkʼs memory loss was caused by a Vulcan and that there is where Kirk probably spent his captivity." Prequel: The Red Fields.) (68)
