This is a story opening for a continue-the-story contest. In an established K/S context, Kirk has disappeared and returned without any memory of K/S. Be also has an intense fear of Spock. I thought that this situation had potential for interesting character conflict and psychological development. A Vulcan healer's intervention would have been an easy solution, but Anna eliminated this possibility by saying that Starfleet wouldn't allow it. I'm glad she did this, there are good reasons why a Vulcan healer who isn't part of Fleet shouldn't be permitted access to Kirk's mind. It isn't just a matter of Kirk's knowledge of classified information. In "Whom Gods Destroy", there is a reference to Starfleet conditioning. If Fleet officers are really subject to some sort of mental conditioning, then Fleet command would not want a telepath who isn't part of Starfleet tampering with the minds of their personnel and possibly undoing their conditioning. I did have a slight problem with Kirk fainting because he was shocked by McCoy's description of K/S sex. Victorian ladies faint when they're shocked. I can't envision Kirk fainting for that reason. I just don't find it believable. [1]
