BASCon was slash fan-run con in south San Francisco, known particularly for its artshow and vidshow.

It was one of two conventions created at the close of Friscon, another slash convention that operated in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1990s. While one convention (Constrict) moved to Las Vegas, BASCon remained in California.

On February 12, 2001, the BASCon mailing list was created and the convention was announced:

As some of you may know, the owners of FriscoN have decided not to do another FriscoN. I was very saddened at this news although I do understand the why of the decision. But I wanted the spirit of FriscoN to continue and found others who felt the same; so we, the con-comm of BAScon [San Fancisco Bay Area slashers] have decided, to celebrate all the varieties of slash in the spirit of Halloween and San Francisco....This will be a kink friendly slash con with a place for all slash fans from the most vanilla to the most out there kind of fan. We want everyone to feel welcome, enjoy each other's company, see the City of San Francisco, and have a slash feast. It is our goal to take the best of FriscoN and carry forward. Please join us. Please forward this to other slash lists you might be on and to dealers you'd like to see at the con. I'm thinking to OZ and Highlander and other fandoms that I might be able to reach. We want to include all slash fans because we love slash and want to see it celebrated in a very special City -- San Francisco.

You can see sample program guides in PDF format from 2004 and 2007.

The con zine for this convention is BASCon.

As of Fall 2011, the concom has announced that 2011 would be the last BASCon, at least for the present.

I was very happy to be at BASCon. It was great seeing everyone, and browsing through the Zine, and other goodies.

The Panels were a highlight for me, and my favorite, as predictable, was the Pros panel. Krisser and Dawnwind were there as well as a few other fans. In fact I learned that there is a new Pros fic posted....and right after this I am going to search for it. I can't wait. Of course again I can say I really, really enjoy Krisser's Pros fic, too, and I hope she is going to post more very soon!

Anyway, to ramble on...I got some gorgeous, gorgeous Pros art bey Suzan Lovett. I lusted seriously, madly, deeply after another piece by here...Gentlemen prefer blondes...a Napoleon/Illya composition in stark black and white. It was absolutely beautiful...but...well...I couldn't afford it. Oh well. ~pouts~

The dealers are fabulous and a few stuck in my mind, JennCat has Tshirt transfers (I chose one of the Pros in the evening...by morning I had my Tshirt.) Fast! Agent with style had a huge assortment of Zines (save on postage!) There were tons of Other Peoples Treasures (used zines, and books and dvds, and other things.) There were fabric items like book covers, book bags, carrier bags, knitted items, fantastic jewelry, and a big selection of pictures of our favorite actors and actresses. There was artwork for sale. And I was happy to see old movies with some of the actors I like to watch...that have been impossible to find. (Including the Pros collection). Yes, there is a theme here.[4]
