Apocalypse West 2000-2005 is a compilation of vids edited by members of the Apocalypse West vidding collective. The compilation contains over 80 vids by five vidders. It includes the contents of the original 2000 VHS vid reel, the 2001 videoCD vid reel, and the 2002 DVD vid reel (transferred to DVD), as well as new vids from the years 2003-2005. It is very similar to the songtape collections offered in the 1980s and 1990s.
Reviews
So, I bought the Apocalypse West 2002 dvd for the Comedy Tonight vid, but the vids that I've been rewatching are the Stargate ones (Ever Since the World Began is a sweet team vid, Settling is a neat Sam & Jolinear vid, and Playing with the Big Boys is the SGC vs the Goa'uld and it kicks ass).[1]
Ever Since the World Began, sung by Survivor, vid by StratWar. "And destiny, it guides us all, by its hand we rise and fall." This vid is about all the bits and pieces that connect the people and events of the Stargate universe. The center of the vid is still SG-1, and they begin and end it but it's not merely a 'team' vid. This is a true ensemble vid, showing us how SG-1 connect to each other and to the people share their journey. Overall, it's incredibly sweet and it connects various events of the series wonderfully. Very much an "I love my show" type of vid, probably better when you have the context of each moment. It's a beautiful vid.[2]
You Can Always Count On Me, sung by Randy Graff, vid by Chaos and StratWar. "'Til I showed up, he never hired a girl 'cause she could type." It starts out slow and bittersweet, and then turns out to be cute and funny, a vid set in Cordy's days of working for Angel Investigations. There's some wonderful bits of visual irony, as well as a nice look at how Cordy truly did show herself to be responsible and grown-up on Angel. Well, more than she'd been before. It starts out with an Angel/Cordelia flavour to it and then there's a very amusing glance at Angel and Cordy's relationships. In the end, it feels like a sincere and charming celebration of what makes Cordelia who she is and why she has such a strong connection to the men of AI.[3]
Falcon in the Dive, sung by Terrence Mann, vid by Plague. "I wasn't born to walk on water. I wasn't born to sack and slaughter. But on my soul, I wasn't born to stoop to scorn and knuckle under." As show-stoppingly dramatic as Crais himself, this vid points out the sheer determination that is both his greatest strength and his greatest weakness. We see his obsessions and his loves, his torments and his sacrifices. There's some very nice Crais/Aeryn vibing and some truly glorious vid choices. Gorgeous character study, covering Crais' entire arc.[4]
