Anime World Cup is a popular amv in the broader anime fandom. As of August 2024, it has over 11 million views on Youtube. The video is well known in the community for its impressive masking, technical skill and execution.
Description
The AMV begins with Yamada Hizashi announcing the world cup. The music kicks in as various characters from different anime, some soccer related, some not even sports related begin to face off in a match. The AMV switches frequently back and forth between action shots of characters' scoring to crossover visual gags like Natsu Dragneel defeating Death the Kid with his asymmetrical sleeves. Finally, the game comes to a close with a net destroying goal from Oozura Tsubasa.
The credits name Tsubasa as Best Player with Lelouch named Best Retire, Midoriya Izuku named Best "I'll Become The Best Player In The World," and Ichigo Kurosaki named Best "Drop The Event Because I'm The Best."
In a bonus scene after the credits Sanji shoots one more time with the ball traveling around the world to score and steal the victory from Captain Tsubasa for One Piece.
