Canon

Final Fantasy X

Yuna is a teenage girl who has spent years training as a Summoner. Like her father before her, Yuna sets out on a pilgrimage across the world of Spira to collect the aeons, powerful beings that Summoners can control in battle. A Summoner's ultimate purpose is to summon the Final Aeon that can destroy the current incarnation of Sin, an enormously powerful beast capable of annihilating entire cities, and subsequently bring about some years of Calm until the next incarnation of Sin returns in Spira's endless spiral of death. Although dedicated to her duty, Yuna finds herself falling in love with one of her Guardians, a boy named Tidus.

Fandom

Yuna is very popular among Final Fantasy fans. In a 2010 Famitsu poll, fans voted Yuna as the 16th best video game character of all time.[1] In a 2013 Square Enix poll, Yuna was voted the third best heroine in the Final Fantasy franchise.[2][3] In a 2020 NHK poll, Yuna was voted the second most popular character in the entire Final Fantasy franchise out of 200 characters, the highest ranked character from Final Fantasy X, which was the highest ranked game.[4][5]

However, her voice actress' performance is one of the most common subjects of criticism regarding Final Fantasy X’s English dub.

As with many other aspects of X-2, changes to Yuna’s personality and appearance garnered mixed reaction from fans. Some criticize the changes as making Yuna out of character and lessening her appeal, while others praise her bolder and more extroverted attitude as natural character development after the events of the first game.[6]

Yuna's soft-spoken nature may cause some fans to roll their eyes, while others find it endearing. However, she becomes bolder and more confident in X-2, which allows fan works to portray 'introvert Yuna' or 'extrovert Yuna' based on preferences.
