Yugi Moto, known as Yugi Mutou or Yuugi Mutou in the manga and Japanese version, is the main protagonist of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! series.

Fandom

Sometimes in fanworks made in the 2000s, Yugi is referred to as Hikari by Yami Yugi and other characters, sharing this nickname with Ryou Bakura and Marik Ishtar; this is inspired by the american dub calling the spirits from the Millenium Itens Yami, meaning Dark in japanese, with Hikari meaning Light. The japanese side of the fandom has a different nickname for him: Omote (表), that means "surface"/"front", to indicate that he's the 'real' Yugi. [1][2]

Heba

Heba is a Alternate Universe version of Yugi that would live in ancient Egypt alongside other characters like Atem and Thief King Bakura, an almost Original Character that can be found in some Yu-Gi-Oh fanworks. It is unknown who created him, with some sources saying he was created in a online roleplaying game [3], but he can be found in fanfics as early as 2003 and 2004, with the writer Mijikai having written the oldest avaliable. [4] He is almost always used in fanfics and fanarts that ship him and Atem, usually so that you can have a story that takes place in ancient Egypt without the use of something like time travel. He does not have a established look, and might either look exactly like Yugi, or have tanned skin like the other egyptian characters.

Shipping

Some of most popular ships in the fandom involving Yugi are Puzzleshipping (him with Yami Yugi/Atem), Rivalshipping (him with Seto Kaiba) and Wishshipping (Joey Wheeler/Yugi Moto). The pairing of Yugi and Téa Gardner, known as Peachshipping, is also very popular, and gets teased in canon material, even if it never is realized.
