Transcendence AU is a alternate universe of Gravity Falls.

Summary

The AU begins with Canon Divergence in which Mabel and Dipper's efforts to stop Bill's plans are only mostly successful and as a result, an event called the Transcendence causes the type of weirdness normally local to Gravity Falls, Oregon to spread across the world. Additionally, while Dipper manages to destroy Bill, he inherits his powers in the process, becoming an immortal dream demon generally referred to as Alcor the Dreambender (named after one of the stars in the Big Dipper constellation). While Alcor is immortal, his family is not, so a major feature of the AU is reincarnation. As Alcor, Dipper is among the most powerful demons in existence, and quickly becomes a being of legend, but attempts to hold on to his humanity via his connection to the descendants of his family and their reincarnations.[1][2]

While the initial events of the Transcendence AU and certain aspects of its worldbuilding are considered to be set in stone, the later continuity is considered "squishy." Fans are encouraged to be creative and put their own spin on established events within the AU. Many works are set decades or centuries post-Transcendence and include numerous OCs. [1]

The Transcendence AU has spawned several derivative AUs, and has also been crossed over with both Gravity Falls canon and other works.

Notable AU-Specific Characters and OCs

  • Alcor the Dreambender - a version of Dipper Pines who has absorbed Bill Cipher's powers,
  • Mizar the Gleeful - the name Mabel uses when Alcor is possessing her or lending her his abilities.
  • Henry Pines - an OC who is Mabel's husband and who gains the ability to turn into a being called The Woodsman via Alcor's powers.[3]
  • Hank, Willow, and Acacia Pines - Henry and Mabel's triplet children, all OCs. Willow has supernatural abilities, Hank accidentally creates a supernatural mafia, and Acacia takes strongly after her grandfather.[3]
  • Toby Pines - a reincarnation of Bill Cipher who is raised by Alcor.[4]

Fandom

The Transcendence AU originated on Tumblr, and much of the early content is centered around the tumblr transcendence-au. The initial lore was developed by Zillenoise, but it quickly became a collaborative project. Within the fandom, the people working to keep track of fics and lore were often referrred to as "mods." With the rise of Discord, many of those interested in the AU joined a shared Discord server, where they continued to develop fanworks related to the AU. [1]

Like the larger Gravity Falls fandom, the Transcendence AU is largely focused on gen works. Angst, mystery, hurt/comfort, and humor works are all very common within the fandom.
