Reactions and Reviews
Bringing Kirk and Spock together through role-playing always lends an air of expectation to a story. That is the case here, as they are assigned diplomatic tasks on a planet that has some very unusual social rituals. I liked the way they confronted the situation, handling it like the mature individuals they must be to be the command team of a Starship. Yet, it was awkward enough to create some great moments between them. Awakening desire was not a surprise, but was very well told—the old made new again.Dialogue is excellent here and very true to the series. There are good sparring scenes with McCoy, who during a medical exam of a now fully matured Spock, asks the Vulcan, "Have you ever used it?" Cute. Experience and intuition tell you that before the read is complete "it" will be put to very good use.
I liked the way the author brought us into this alien but not unpleasant culture, it was thorough enough to give you a good feel for where you were without being boring. It didn't pull you away from where you wanted to be focused, which was on Spock and Kirk. I found it all very entertaining and it held my attention from start to finish. [1]
