Excerpt from Part One
"The Jedi. War order, military order, religious/philosophical order, or community of weirdos? It's never really specified, save in comments by biased parties. Tarkin calls them a religion, Yoda's comments are that they lean towards the philosophical, and Ben says that they were the guardians of freedom and justice in the Old Republic. But what were they? How did they use the Force? (What is the Force?) What made them able to use the Force? What made a Jedi as, supposedly, opposed to a Dark Lord, and what led to their fall?"
Excerpt from Part Two
"'The Lightsaber is the weapon of a Jedi Knight... an elegant weapon, for a more civilized time.' This is about the only explanation we are given of the lightsaber. So, perhaps in retaliation, fanfic abounds with explanations of this mysterious weapon. Mostly the explanation is in passing, but it is there. Why the fascination?"
