Excerpts
[How long have I been writing fan fiction?] Oh, God. I suppose close to twenty-five years, if you count the truly horrible V and Adderly (shut up) fanfic I painstakingly (and painfully) wrote in my tortured adolescence. However, if you're talking about stuff I'm actually happy to show people, then my first Net-published fic was In the Light of Morning, a DS9 Odo/Kira story, about eight years ago. ...My first participatory fandom was Star Trek (the original, baby), starting around '83 or '84, but since then I've been fannish about tons of shows, from Alien Nation and Babylon 5 to Quantum Leap and NUMB3RS. Fandoms I've written in are (a little) less numerous: ST:DS9, ST:Voyager, The X-Files, The A-Team, due South, The Sentinel, Harry Potter, Starsky & Hutch, Smallville, and most recently, I Spy.
I guess the main thing that I love about SGA the show is that they're ordinary heroes, with flaws and foibles, not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but still getting the job done. I love that they don't quite fit in anywhere else but Atlantis, and that they've made a home there together. And I love that Season Three has given us a goodly dose of crack and an increasing emphasis on the interpersonal relationships between the characters; hopefully we can look forward to more of the same in S4. And of course, I love the McKay/Sheppard dynamic, which is the reason we're all here. The banter, the snark, the geek references, the dorky smiles, the saving one another's lives - it's enough to make a slasher's heart grow three sizes in sheer glee. As far as the fandom is concerned, I love that we have so many kickass authors and artists out there who give us all this marvelous romance, angst, humour, crack, and everything else you can think of or possibly want. I love that despite the occasional dustup, SGA fandom is still largely a happy place to be, which ain't easy in a fandom this size. I love that SGA fen in general tend not to take themselves too seriously. I love SGA fandom, period.
