Canon examples & variation
How many canon examples do we really need? I added two earlier because where possible I try to add non-western-media-fandom examples, but TV Tropes is the place for collecting canon examples. I think having some canon examples is useful, but how much is too much? Could we include an external link or two to relevant resurrection tropes on TV Tropes for people who want to see more canon examples? - Hoopla (talk) 18:50, 12 September 2018 (UTC)
- I moved one of the canon examples to the correct category, and added one more canon example to replace the presumed dead example I'd moved. I think it's good to have canon examples from different mediums and non Western fandoms. I'm not sure if we need a link to resurrection examples in canon, but I do think there's enough canon examples there now. Would it be a good idea to have a list of characters regularly resurrected by fandom?? For example, Sirius Black in the HP fandom. That could end up been a very long list as well but it would put the focus back on fandom.--Auntags (talk) 13:12, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
- Oh yes I wasn't trying to make any kind of pointed statement about your edit, despite the timing of my comment — your edit just made me look at the page again and then I had some new thoughts.
- I think more fannish examples would be excellent. Rather than just a list, I'd love to see expanded discussions like the ones we have, preferably with fanwork examples below. If a section becomes very developed (as I assume a section about Sirius Black resurrection fic could get) then it could be split off into its own article with just a short blurb here. I think just straight TV-tropes style lists are hard to get anything of value about, so I'd rather have prose explanations. - Hoopla (talk) 19:16, 5 October 2018 (UTC)
- Don't worry about it Hoopla, I didn't feel singled out at all. I am just prone to explaining my edits.
- The current fandom section looks at fanworks created in response to canon resurrection, although I'm not familiar enough with Merlin to be sure with that one. Should it be divided into two sections, maybe "Fanworks featuring Canon Resurrection" and "Fanworks using Resurrection Trope".
- I think there's a lot to be said about how fan theories feed into the resurrection fics, once it becomes clear a character isn't coming back. But the examples I'm thinking of are from similar fandoms. Also there is a page on the Sirius Black Resurrection trope, Bring Back Black, but it's basically a stub. --Auntags (talk) 21:22, 5 October 2018 (UTC)

Other fandoms, new and old
In Dungeon Meshi fandom, one of the characters dies and is brought back to life with magic. I believe it would be interesting to add this work to the trope page -- Ellakbhesse (talk) 21:08, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- Blair also died in The Sentinel and was "resurrected" by Jim correct? Would these two examples be good for the page? Could anyone help me add or confirm if they are correct? -- Ellakbhesse (talk) 23:01, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
