wow, that was a whole lot of work. clearly not finished but at least, I hit most of the high points?

I added a few details about the early mailing lists.

*waves to acari* Glad you improved the history here. Was the rest of it OK? And I suspect that the extended DVD of FOTR had a lot to do with people discovering Lotrips. And not just because that was my entryway ;-) (to sign these things, put four tildes ~ in a row, it will auto-insert your name and the date) -- Msilverstar 21:43, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Hi hi. I always got the impression Two Towers was what brought on the massive "second wave" influx of new people. It was probably a combination of factors, though. Ghani 22:46, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Your wording makes it look like The Establishment was a Lotrips RPG when in fact, at the time it was founded, the majority of the characters were not LotR actors. Telesilla 08:53, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

thanks for rewording, your way of putting it is far more accurate than mine was. I rearranged whole paragraph around so Hollyweirdos was first and did some minor revision, but your point very much still stands. --Msilverstar 16:35, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
I removed the wording "very early in the fandom" from the bit about Hollyweirdos as fandom had already been going strong for quite some time by the time the game came along (you can't exactly parody a new fandom). --Kyuuketsukirui 16:44, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

move to top-level

I propose that this page be moved to a top-level page (see Talk:Phantom Menace/RPS), named either The Lord of the Rings RPF or Lord of the Rings RPF. I'd even go with LOTRiPS, but I understand that the acronyms in use for the fandom vary. (I can't recall ever reading any het or gen in this fandom, but there must be some, right?) The FPF subpage should be reviewed as well, though it may not need to move.

Basically, if we don't move this page, we'll run into the same problems we had with the Star Trek pages.--æthel 18:03, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

I agree. Also, I vote for LOTRiPS because that is what the fandom called itself. --Doro 18:07, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
Or Lotrips, according to the page. I guess my original impulse was to make the scope of the fandom clearer to outsiders, but we've already got a J2 page, so let's go for it!--æthel 18:23, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
The acronym in use for the fandom varies - yep. You are right that it's nearly all slash. My personal usage is lotrips, but I think LOTRiPS is slightly more logical and descriptive and less annoying to people whose brains expand acronyms, so I vote for LOTRiPS. Also I find it gratifying to think we might be moved to the top-level. --Msilverstar 03:19, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Now agree with Lord of the Rings RPF as a page name

Seven years later (!), it makes sense to make the name more consistent with other RPF. And add it to Category:Celebrities & Real People (which could use some cleanup itself) --msilverstar (talk) 00:38, 4 May 2016 (UTC)

Category:Lotrips is already listed under Category:Actor RPF. Why should the page name Lotrips be changed? Did the fandom name actually change? AO3 tag wrangling rules require consistency, but Fanlore page names should reflect what the fans actually call a thing, unless there is truly no consensus on what it is called.--aethel (talk) 01:02, 4 May 2016 (UTC)
