rename to something else?

Apart from the Harry Potter example, do other fandoms call this "imitation"? If not, is there another term for this in fandom? Or we could use a more descriptive title like Fanart Pastiche?--aethel (talk) 01:16, 14 January 2023 (UTC)

Pastiche is a general glossary page, but this page exists mainly to group a lot of examples together. It would overwhelm the pastiche page if they were merged, and I find value in a page specifically devoted to documenting all the popular sources of fanart inspiration. We could be adding a lot more examples if we weren't limited to art that was already uploaded to Fanlore (for example, there's currently no mention of Madame X, which I keep stumbling on new renditions of). I reblogged a bunch on my tumblr account here. We could add the info about the use of the term "imitation" to the pastiche page, but retain this as a list page--list of fanart influences? Good point, æthel. I think moving the page to Fanart Pastiche is a good idea now.

I am also of the opinion that we keep this page separate, maybe just put a little note on the Pastiche glossary page saying "if you want to see more, see also...". I think it's fine if we rename this one, if that is the consensus, "Fanart Pastiche" is good or something else entirely -- Kingstoken (talk) 20:40, 14 January 2023 (UTC)

Imitation is now also a webtoon and kdrama! I cast my vote for renaming this page (maybe list of ___ ... but fanart pastiche is ok too) and turning this into a disambig Distracteddaydreamer (talk) 03:43, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
