It’s true that the character differentiation is entirely in the costumes, since ZUN can’t draw different faces or body types, but the costumes are so fundamental to the characters that it works, and it’s definitely not true that they’re not differentiable by silhouette! The single most iconic piece of touhou media is just a parade of different characters in silhouette, and they’re all instantly recognizable to people with a passing familarity.

Most of the above examples focus on visual recreations/reinterpretations, there's also a LOT of audio recreations/reinterpretations. **many** covers, translations, different instrumentations, remixes, etc maybe i'm repeating myself here.

• Bad Apple in multiple languages (and second version by the same creator in "languages I don't speak]) -- h/t Tzerj on discord [one particularly impressive example: many languages sung by one person, but many different people contributed translations, insturmentation, arrangement, etc]

this is notable bc almost all of the songs in the game are either commissioned for the game from vocaloid producers or pre-existing vocaloid songs, they've done, like, one or two collabs w/non-vocaloid musicians prior to this and I think this is their first collab with a non-rhythm game and w/no established connection to the vocaloid fandom (besides the fancovers and I think maybe the original iconic video was made in MMD if that counts)
anyway the prsk cover is interesting bc they DON'T fully recreate The Video but take clear inspiration from it to try and make it unique to this group of characters and what they do (music production, illustration and video editing as depicted from 1:51 in the video onwards)

but also god I hate that they changed the beat of the original. it was already perfect and you fucked it up guys sorry
