Stephen Fabian is a fanartist and tribber active in the science fiction and comics fandoms largely from the 1960s to the 1980s, although his work and commentary is still appearing in fan collections. He was self-taught and has contributed art in a plethora of fanzines in various different fandoms.

In 1977 Fabian went pro, working for a number of magazines and publishing companies, but he still found time to contribute art to various zines, including several Lovecraft zines.

He was nominated for a number of awards, including the Hugos, the Locus Poll Awards and the World Fantasy Awards, but was often the bridesmaid rather than the bride. He was recognised for his contribution to fantasy in 2000 with a World Fantasy Award Lifetime Achievement; he also won a number of British Fantasy and Balrog Awards.

Reviews and Recommendations

Fabian is like a sponge; he eclectically absorbs a host of influences, mingling them back at you in unexpected places. The cover for Gf 11 is a case in point, note especially the tiny Tim Kirk type figures and mount in the middle distance.
