Slipping off the Page into Your Hands is a Steve/Tony story by Sineala.
Summary: Soulmates have their first words to each other written on their wrists. This should make it easy. For Steve and Tony, it is anything but. Steve's problem is that the future he has awoken into is nothing he was ever expecting: he has a soulmate now. Who might be a robot. And if his soulmate is Iron Man, how can he be so attracted to Tony Stark? It should be impossible. Tony's problem is that he is Iron Man, his soulmate is a man whom he in no way deserves, and he is going to fight everything in his heart and do his best to make sure Steve never, ever finds out the whole truth.
The work was written for the 2014 Captain America/Iron Man Big Bang.

Yes, it's an early-canon 616 identity porn soulmate AU!
The approach to the setting itself is AU, in a "the time is now, the place is early-canon 616" way. The tech is all modern, including Avengers equipment (Quinjets, identicards, repulsors, various identity-obscuring features of the armor) that the team didn't actually start out with. Some of the events mentioned happen here exactly as they did in canon; some do not. (Some are pretty much the same with alteration of dialogue.) A few later retcons are in; most aren't. I've taken a lot of inspiration from the modern early-canon reimaginings like Captain America: Man Out of Time and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes (Casey/Rosado limited series, not the cartoon or the other comics by that name). I am also running with the assumption that Tony pretty much stops building weapons after becoming Iron Man, because I feel that makes more sense culturally with a modern-day starting point, as it is no longer the Cold War.
Background pairings are Hank Pym/Janet Van Dyne and implied future Bucky/Natasha.

You know, I think one of the hallmarks of any type of great writing - fanfic or not, just writing in general - is its ability to create believable universes you can pretty much lose yourself in. This is one of those rare fics that creates its own wonderfully weird world (alliteration for ya) that you just kind of sink into. You just, you want to cry over Tony’s pining and for Steve’s confusion and you just want to reach in and grab our boys and tell them YOU DESERVE TO BE TOGETHER, NOW PLEASE FUCK. I loved it.[3]
