Excerpts

What was your first experience with fanfic?

Looking for something to read at work on a day when it was close to 100 degrees with 100 percent humidity and no air conditioning in the building! I discovered the Mistress Janeway series (Voyager BDSM fanfic).

What was your first encounter with X-Files fanfic?

I don't really remember, but it was back in the MKRA/MSSS days.

What made you into a Skinneroticist?

The nearly nude scene in "Zero Sum," of course.

What are your top five all-time favorite stories?

Just off the top of my head--"My Tape Runneth Over" (M/Sk and Sc/Sk), "I Still Have Plans to Go to Mexico" (M/Sk/K), "Goober and the Czar" (Krycek/Pendrell), and pretty much any of JiM's Houseboat series, especially the two M/K ones. Ask me tomorrow and my answers might be different.

How do you write? Do you have any special technique?

Boredom is a good stimulant. Much of my fanfic has been written in spare moments at work, between patrons.

Are you still writing fanfic? What are you currently working on?

I'm trying to detach from fanfic, but there are a couple of XF projects I'd dearly love to finish.

Do you write for other fandoms? Which ones?

I've written Voyager, Sentinel, Phantom Menace, and Velvet Goldmine in addition to XF. I've written more XF stories than any other.

How do you feel about fanfic in general?

I feel it's a great writer's workshop, more fun than the exercises in writing books, but on the other hand, I also feel it can absorb people's energies too much. There are many fine writers in fanfic who *could* be creating their own characters and universes.
