Excerpts

What was your first encounter with X-Files fanfic?:

I think it was in the summer of '97, when I first went on-line. The X-Files was on hiatus and I was going through withdrawal. I was hanging out in the AOL X-Files chat room and someone asked me if I was a "shipper." Hmmm, what's that? Oh, yes, yes I am! So, I then went on the hunt for a shipper web site. I couldn't tell you now what site it was: but it was there that I found out about X-Files fanfic. I can't remember the *very first* story I read, but my earliest choices included "12 Degrees of Separation" by Anne Haynes and the "Words" series by Karen Rasch.

What made you into a Skinneroticist?:

Mustang Sally and Red Valerian. I read Sally's "Syntax and Measure," which made passing reference to a naked tussle between Skinner and stoned-out-of-her-gourd Scully -- but it didn't include the actual scene, which drove me nuts, because Sally had built up the UST between them to monumental proportions. Then I read Red's "I Spy." I had never seen Skinner before in the way that she portrayed him -- rawly sexual and rather dangerous. The two inspired me to write "Shocking Blue."

What are your top five all-time favorite stories?:

I'm sure I'll miss something...uh, "Letters of Transit" by Loch Ness, "Out of the Darkness" by Kassandra, "A Little Light Reading" series by mlb, "The Caveat Emporium" by Red Valerian, and "Vestigy/Trillobiography" by Lisby. Oh, and anything by Xanthe. And Merry-Todd Webster. And Halrloprillar. Okay, I'll stop now....

How do you feel about fanfic in general?:

I think it's great, both for writers and their audience. It's a wonderful way to learn how to write, with immediate feedback. And it's so much fun to read about your favourite characters doing things you'd never see on the show.

Is there anything else that you would like to say?:

I'd like to apologize to everyone who wants a conclusion to Shocking Blue. If there's one thing I want to do before I die, it's finish that damn story! My life has been really difficult these last few years, but I'm getting back on track. I'd also like to apologize to the writers I used to beta for -- I just don't have the time anymore.
