Time and distance had a way of making everything look small and insignificant in comparison, and so did the burden Mike carried with him. It was a lot of responsibility, being the lighthouse keeper. It had fallen on him accidentally, but he didn’t mind; or rather, he did not blame anyone else for it. None of them had any choice over the fact they had left, after all, they had been children.
