Ko-Fi is a website where users can receive donations, pitched as "ask fans to support your work for the price of a coffee." The site does not take a commission fee from the donations, which can be small or very large; they are not limited to coffee-priced donations or payments. Many fan artists and writers use Ko-Fi as a means to get tipped for their contributions to fandom.

While it did not begin as a fandom site - the designer wanted a way to thank people for posting technical answers on coding sites[1] - it took off as a way to both show appreciation for fanworks and a way to pay for commissions. For more discussion, see Fandom and Profit.

Many fans are unhappy that AO3 does not allow Ko-Fi links (nor Patreon nor other payment links of any sort) on stories or in author profiles.
