Foreword

Star Wars fans have long held Old Ben Kenobi, former Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, in fond and high respect since A New Hope came out in 1977. The idea in 1999 that we would see a young, brash Obi-Wan and learn his “origin story” was exciting. For some of us fans, though, the anticipation of meeting the one who trained this great Jedi Master was equally thrilling. With young apprentice Obi-Wan played by a relative unknown by the name of Ewan McGregor and his master, Qui-Gon Jinn, played by a more well-known and Hollywood favorite Liam Neeson, fans were primed to be taken by storm.

Some fans, however, were ready to take the legends a bit further than LucasFilms intended them to go and thus the Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan fandom was born.

While the prequels have gotten a lot of flack over the years, the rise of The Clone Wars series brought them back to a nostalgic rebirth with many Star Wars fans. The Clone Wars gave a new depth to the era the three prequel movies centered on that just couldn’t be crammed into three 2-hour movies. Fans fell in love all over again with coming into his own Obi-Wan Kenobi, brash young Anakin Skywalker, brave Padme Amidala, the Jedi Order who supported them, the Sith who thwarted them, and the galaxy erupting into chaos around them. We met new friends in the clone troopers, Senators new and old, Jedi padawans like Ahsoka Tano, Jedi Masters who were just blips of the big screen like Kit Fisto, Plo Kloon and Ki-Adi Mundi, and new Sith to hate like Asajj Ventress.

We even found out the fate of our beloved Qui-Gon Jinn, a maverick even in the Force.

Our imaginations soared once more. Some fans were dormant since the end of the prequel movies in the early 2000s, some were still active and trying to keep the fandom alive, and we all welcomed new fans into our fold. This compendium is an homage to our love of the prequels and especially wise and serene Jedi Master Qui- Gon Jinn and his brash and eager to learn Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi. We are fans that will die on the hill on which these two Jedi broke the mold and forged their own path to the Light.

While some of the stories within are sexy, others are not. The art reflects the broad range of fan art, some of the best our fandom has. The contributors and committee that wrangled them worked hard to try and bring you the best. We think we succeeded.

All in all, the Qui/Obi fandom, or Jinnobi if you prefer, is kind of awesome in that respect. Young or old, seasoned or new, we’re here for each other, just the way Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are there for each other as well.

It was not my intention to step on any toes with this story and am only using the trope to further the plot. Many, many thanks to Tem for handholding and to Writestuff, whose beta made this immeasurably stronger.
