Mini Duncney Day was a day-long event in the Total Drama fandom for the popular Duncney pairing. The event was hosted on Tumblr by Antoniette and Ely, who both co-ran theprincessandthedelinquent, a blog dedicated to the ship. The event encouraged fans to make fanworks of all kinds, though mostly fanart and fic.

Mini Duncney Day got into hot water with the rest of the fandom quickly, however, because it interfered with chefhatchet's Appreciation Calendar, a fandom calendar for appreciation days and fan events moderated by chefhatchet. The original plan of it being on 26 March was the day after Courtné Day, and because there was an already popular Duncney Week in August, some fans suggested the date be changed or that the event should be cancelled entirely.

One of the fanweek's supporters was also an infamous harasser in the Total Drama fandom, cherriquitecontrary, and many other contributors were also in her circle of friends. The controversy surrounding Mini Duncney Day was one symptom of a larger fandom war happening on Tumblr at the time, culminating in the rise and fall of theconfessioncam.

Origins

On 18 March 2014, theprincessandthedelinquent encouraged fans to "flood the tag" with Duncney on 26 March. The idea appealed to many, so Mini Duncney Day was set in motion. The next day, the event name would be announced along with a prompt list. One of the prompts, "1920s/ Bonnie & Clyde AU," was inspired by the popular Courtney/Duncan fic Machine Gun Blues by strayphoenix and youngjusticeslut on FanFiction.Net. youngjusticeslut liked the shoutout and participated in the day later on.

Hello! I’m the one who created and promoted the whole Duncney Day thing.
I didn’t decided to make the day a thing because Duncney weeks is too far away for away and I can’t cope, nor because I can’t handle that they’ve broken up, and most definitely not because i want to start a movement??? It is not any of that crap that was said in the comments.
Like you said, Duncney Week is in August… that’s 5 months away. That’s not soon by any means. The goal is to get the tag active now, why would I wait 5 months instead?
The Duncney tag has been rather dead as of late, so instead of filling it up with old content that nearly everyone has seen or content that is already posted to tumblr, I decided to make a day in the immediate future to spam the tag with new content. That is literally it, I explained this in the original post if you bothered to read it.
It hardly even counts as a Duncney Day to begin with; there are no set rules or prompts. It’s literally there to act as a catalyst in making the tag more active.
I really really don’t see the big deal or why anyone is complaining about it, if you want you ship to have a day or week go ahead and make one, let it be known and viola you have one.
Anyways, thanks for your concerns but if you’re not planning on participating or are agitated by the day then just avoid the Duncney tag or blacklist it via Tumblr Savior or the Xkit extension.

So, I just checked chefhatchet’s blog and saw that it’s today. Tbh, I didn’t even realize it when I mentioned a date for it, I checked when I made the date to see if it conflicted with any other Duncney related day, but I didn’t check for other ships which is a mistake on my part.
I could announce to push it back a day or two, so it’s in the middle of Courtné and Duntrent day instead of immediately after Courtné day. But even so, people who don’t see the announcement might still post tomorrow.
It’s not meant to rival any ship and I really wish someone were to have said something when I posted it the first time instead of … ya know, the day before. If it’ll remedy people's grievances with the day then I will move it, no problem.
Just sort of sucks that the the problem wasn’t addressed to me specifically (instead of in the tag) because I would have handled it right away and alleviated the situation before people made upset posts about it or accusations about me and the day.
I’ll make an announcement pushing it back a day as to not stir up any unwarranted drama, but of course, with this fandom, it’s sure to come up regardless. Thanks for letting me know what the issue was, otherwise I wouldn’t have known!

Yea, I plan on posting duncney in the tag. Getting the tag active (which is the goal in this) isn’t a one man job.
It’s not outshining anyone and if you bothered to read any of the posts concerning it you’ll understand that I was unaware and moved the date accordingly.

A day before the event began, cherriquitecontrary, (mentioned above,) said this after an argument on her Tumblr. The phrase is sometimes memed in the fandom and otherwise parroted around. It was even featured in Unironicduncanstan's Total Drama Iceberg in 2021.
