Michael Corner is a minor character in the Harry Potter series. He is one of the "Original 40"[2] students in Harry's year and is a Ravenclaw.
Canon
Michael Corner is in Harry's year at Hogwarts and sorted into Ravenclaw. He is mainly friends with his housemates and is rarely seen until fifth year when he joins Dumbledore's Army. During fifth year he also begins dating Ginny Weasley, who later dumps him, and then dates Cho Chang until she graduates the following year.
During seventh year Michael joins Dumbledore's Army in defying the Death Eaters who have taken over Hogwarts and is tortured for releasing a first year from punishment. He is one of the students hiding in the Room of Requirement and joins in the final battle against Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters.
In the movies his character is only credited as "slightly creepy boy".
He is sometimes interpreted as a character of color due to Hermione's description of him as "the dark one" to identify him among the DA members.[3]

Michael is not very popular in fanworks, likely because he is mainly a background character in the series. As of February 18, 2021 there are 445 works on Archive of Our Own that are tagged with Michael Corner. In the vast majority of these Michael only plays a minor role as a side character.
On Archive of Our Own there are 54 works for the pairing of Michael and Ginny, 14 for Michael and Cho, and 9 for Michael and Lisa as of February 18, 2021. However, the majority of the time these couples are background pairings. There are only a handful of works on Archive of Our Own that feature Michael as the main character.

- Ginny/Michael — Met at the Yule Ball and dated for most of the following year. Ginny says she "ditched" Michael at the end of Order of the Phoenix because he was a sore loser at Quidditch.
- Cho/Michael — Started dating at the end of Order of the Phoenix after Michael and Ginny and Harry and Cho break up. Possibly still dating or at least on good terms in Deathly Hallows, as Cho goes to sit besides Michael when she returns for the Battle of Hogwarts.
- Michael/Lisa Turpin — Fellow Ravenclaws. In fanon, sometimes described as attending the Yule Ball together, or even ending up married with children.[4]
