A kuudere is a character archetype describing a fictional character who is calm and aloof but has a hidden soft and affectionate side, usually for a love interest. The term kuudere comes from kuuru, the katakanization of the English word 'cool', and deredere, meaning "lovey-dovey" and used to describe sweet and loving characters.[1][2] Kuuderes are often sarcastic and known for being blunt and to the point.[3] The kuudere archetype is particularly popular in anime and manga fandoms.
