Jayce Talis is a player character in League of Legends and a main character of the TV show Arcane. In canon he's known as Jayce Giopara when in League of Legends context, though this is not his family name.

Some fans see Jayce as the "default male protagonist" and discourage the fandom from focusing on him over other characters.[Notes 1] As the first season of Arcane was airing, some fans worried that the the show would canonize Jay/Vi over their preferred slash or femslash pairings; many of these fans were pleased that the show developed MelJay and CaitVi instead.
Since the show has aired, most fandom content for Jayce has focused on his relationship with Viktor, mostly as a romantic ship but also exploring their platonic or working relationship.
Sexuality and Ethnicity
There are different headcanons regarding his sexuality and ethnicity depending on the iteration of the character, with two main ones standing out, Talis and Giopara (base skin).
In Arcane, most fans believe Jayce to be brown and latino[1][2][3][4], though the understanding of this concept shifts.[5] His two most popular real world nationalities are Mexican[2] and Brazilian: Jayce is frequently headcanoned as Mexican, possibly due to his mother's name, Ximena, being very popular there as a girl's name[6], her Latin accent, and to his VA, Kevin Alejandro. But there are also fans who prefer to see him as Brazilian[7], particularly due to his physical similarities with the Brazilian actor, Thiago Lacerda.[8] Although, technically both Alejandro and Lacerda are ethnically Spanish/English[9] and Portuguese[10], respectively. Meanwhile, Giopara, being a blue-eyed, pale man with European features is considered white.
Regarding his sexuality, fans tend to consider Giopara gay.[11] This has to do with his connection to Viktor throughout the game's lore, since their lives and objectives revolved around each other. Their bios, blurbs, comics and interactions were also similarly attuned, with them being narrative foils and following the friends to enemies to friends trope and being Insufferable Geniuses who could only really stand and understand each other.
In Arcane, during Season 1, Talis enters a relationship with Mel Medarda, while keeping a very close relationship with Viktor, leading fans to label Jayce as bisexual or pansexual.[12] Many JayVik supporters highlight an instance in which Jayce goes as far as leaving Mel partway through the night after sex to check on Viktor because Viktor is seriously ill; some fans interpret this choice as Jayce romantically/sexually preferring Viktor over Mel in canon. Further interactions between Jayce and Viktor clearly demonstrate that they love and cherish each other dearly—such as when Jayce chooses to stay with Viktor in self-sacrifice to destroy the hexcore, even after mutual betrayals and homicide attempts. Shippers also draw parallels between Mel and Viktor both developing dazzling godlike powers, leading some to joke that Jayce is specifically attracted to celestial beings, and he has a moth brain that loves pretty lights more than self-preservation.
The Giopara VS Talis contrasting sexualities and ethnicities are sometimes depicted being compared in memes or fanarts.[13][14]
Some fans have started drawing Jayce Giopara with Talis' figures since the end of Arcane. There's also been some mashups.[15]
