Hunter, also known as The Golden Guard, is an former antagonist turn major supporting chracter of The Owl House. He's voiced by Zeno Robinson.
Canon
Hunter's official debut is in the first episode of the second season, Separate Tides. He becomes the Head of the Emperor's Coven after Lilith Clawthorne abdicates her role, and it's later revealed that he cannot perform magic, relying on staff to cast artificial spells. In Lake Eclipse, Eda says Luz calls him "a bad but sad boy". He has a red bird palisman called Flapjack.
Fandom
The fandom seems in general agreement that Hunter deserves better. [1] [2] Many fans are eager to see him hanging at The Owl House with the rest of the gang, be it with him acting as a double-agent or escaping Emperor Belos and his Coven.
Hunter is super cute and he deserves the world but he is about to have some serious long lasting effects from living with Belos his whole life [3]
Drawing parallels with other fandoms is a common activity in the owl house fandom. Hunter, as a sad, angsty teen on the wrong side of the war, is often compared to Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender, [4] [5] [6] Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter, [7] or even Adrien Agreste from Miraculous Ladybug. As of February 19, 2022, Hunter & Luz is the character's most popular platonic relationship on AO3 and Edric/Hunter is the romantic one despite two of them not having directly interacted in the series yet. [9] Though less popular than Lumity, Lunter is also a common ship that gets backlash from other fans, some of whom see Lunter as a homophobic attack on a queer canon couple. After their interactions on the second season, Huntlow (Hunter/Wilow) has also gained some popularity.
i love l/umity but lately some of the shippers have been so fucking annoying. you can't ship luz with anyone but amity, even if you're just doing it for fun. if you're a luz/hunter shipper specifically, you're a "homophobe" despite the fact luz is canonically bi

There is no problem with a 2 year age gap at this age. Y'all do realise that Steven and Connie from Steven Universe are a CANNON SHIP WITH THE EXACT SAME AGE GAP AS LUZ AND HUNTER? YET NO ONE HAS PROBLEM WITH THAT? By your own fucking logic If Hunter X Luz is not okay because of the age gap then Converse isn’t okay either. Are you that fucking stupid?

This is clearly because people can’t take seeing Luz with anyone besides Amity. Not that’s there’s nothing wrong with Lumity, Lumity is fine. Its the Lumity stans who are attacking innocent people over a couple THAT DOESN’T EVEN EXIST IRL. Also ARE YOU FOEGETTING LUZ IS BISEXUAL? THIS ISN’T ERASURE. The amount of biphobia I’ve seen in some lumity stans bashing people for this ship is just fucking insane.
Just because a ship is cannon DOES NOT MEAN EVERYONE HAS TO LIKE IT. I mean, look at Starco from Star VS. the Forces of Evil for example. A large chunk of people didn’t like that ship being cannon. And even though Lumity is written far better, not everyone has to like that either. Its not that fucking hard to grasp.

My problem with Luz x Hunter is how fast people are/were willing to ship Luz with a man. Like imagine watching a show where the soon to be canon ship is a WLW relationship but people are shipping one of the WLWs with a man. I would be ok with Luz x Hunter if it was canon but its not. The problem is we finally get a canon WLW relationship in a Disney show but people would rather ship Luz with a man. The existence of Luz x Hunter as a ship is WLW erasure.

yes exactly that's my issue too. obviously luz is bisexual and i wouldn't have an issue with her having a guy as a love interest because that would still be bi rep but the fact is she isn't supposed to be with a guy! she's canonically with a girl and that's fantastic representation as it is, and it's great to see a bi girl in a relationship with another girl. but like i said in my post earlier today people don't see lumity as legitimate because luz is bi and it's very frustrating as a wlw to see the representation of a wlw couple just. ignored [13]
huntlow could’ve very easily gone the “soft girl falls for the “bad boy”” trope but they went for the “dork loser falls for the girl that could beat his ass” and it’s wonderful [14]
