Gone Fishing is a Merlin/Arthur story by Lamardeuse.

Summary: Arthur is determined to discover Merlin's secret. R.

In this story Arthur knows that Merlin has a secret, he just doesn't know what it is. This is unacceptable to Arthur and a hunting trip is supposed to help him discover what Merlin is hiding.

“Well, I'm changing my habits,” Arthur countered, feeling a small prick of irritation – and fine, yes, trepidation – at Merlin's continued resistance. “I simply wish to get away from court for a day or two. I thought you might like to do the same. But if you'd rather not, I'm certainly more than capable of going alone.”

Nadis translated the story into Russian for the Arthur/Merlin Secret Santa Challenge.

Recs and Reviews

  • "Arthur takes Merlin on a camping trip."[2]
  • "Delightful. Great way for Merlin's secret to be revealed (accidently) to Arthur and neat twist in how Arthur won't turn him in to Uther."[3]
  • "My favorite bit is Arthur insisting that Merlin ask him to keep the secret, thus making it a question of honor. That rang really true for me, and solved so many problems."[4]
  • "Not only is this a brilliant magic reveal fic but it's a brilliant Arthur/Merlin coming together fic as well. I love how Arthur knew that to get anything out of him they'd have to go away from Camelot and what I love even more was that Arthur twisted his conscious about not telling his father by using the bet/oath. That was a brilliant touch and very realistic. I could easily imagine that happening. It's a very Arthur thing to do."[5]
