My preferences for Open ID users + Design

I noticed you fixed the e-mail issue for Open ID users, but Fanlore.org is still not saving any other info submitted under My preferences (e.g. your nickname, etc.) after logging out.

Also, I tried sending an e-mail to [email protected] a couple of days ago about this issue, but I received an e-mail saying that it was held in moderation? And I never know if it was received? --wistfuljane 11:01, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the head's up, I'm following up both of these issues with our tech support right now. --Hope 11:36, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
Thank you! On a whole other topic, I have some design/css requests:
- For table of content that are placed within infoboxes, the header links are centered. Could we align it to the left?
- I noticed that for most articles using a template (CommunityProfile, UserProfile, Fandom, etc.), if a paragraph is written at the top and placed without a header, the spacing between lines is too closed up. Does that make sense? This page has example of what I'm talking about: http://fanlore.org/wiki/The_Fast_And_The_Furious. Could we increase the line height for that? (ETA: Although this is not a very consistent issue, for sometimes the spacing is perfectly all right for articles using templates? I don't know.)
- For headers, if two headers is placed next to each others in a row without any texts in between, there's not spacing in between them. Example: http://fanlore.org/wiki/Newsletter/Newsletter_Communities. Is there anyway to add spacing without messing the rest of the spacing?
Um, I hope I'm making sense.
--wistfuljane 12:22, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
I noticed that too and can't work out why the templates are doing that either. And not consistently--some I've done didn't have that problem and some I have, and I'm not sure why. --Seperis 23:07, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
wistfuljane - for the first part with the profiles, an easy workaround is to add to br commands at the end of that first paragraph before the first header. It gives it a normal amount of space. Tested here: http://fanlore.org/wiki/Svmadelyn. --Seperis 00:37, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
@Seperis: I tested adding a break command - for community template, in between the template code and first paragraph, it would increase the line height of the first paragraph if it was scrunched up. So I guess if the first paragraph's line height is too closed up, either enter the break command before or after the first paragraph? --wistfuljane 17:21, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
It's a CSS issue - I'm onto it :) --Hope 03:42, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Categories on subpages

I want to create, for example, the page for the torch_wood LJ comm at Torchwood/torch_wood. However, we're not supposed to put categories on subpages, and the community profile template includes at least one category. Should I just create torch_wood as a top-level page and assume we'll fix it later with redirects if it is decided that categories can be put on subpages? -Lipsum 05:34, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Lipsum, I'd say that torch_wood could have its own page. But WRT wider issues about subpages, we're working on making policy about this clearer at the moment. --Hope 03:42, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
Subpages may be given appropriate categories now, as they may have separate fandoms around them (such as ship based fandoms) than are associated with the main page. Pairing and Character will before floating subcategories that will be able to be assigned like regular categories, but we are still in the process of setting these up. --rache 00:11, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

"Create Me" Subcategories

I can't find a list of all the subcategories that people want created, so if you want one, please edit this page and add it to the list here, along for why it should be created, so we can make sure it gets addressed. --rache 16:20, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Encourage people to use the talk page of the sitemap for this. --Hope 03:42, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

single vs. plural in glossary items

Glossary entries that can be singular or plural are going to cause some confusion unless there's a way to link/combine the two. For instance, I created the glossary item X-Phile today, but when I used it in a page, I ended up wanting to say X-Philes and of course I couldn't link directly to that as it wasn't a defined term.

Is there a standard in place for this?

--Punk 08:08, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

All you have to do for that is make your link as X-Philes. The pipe lets you link to something while displaying text that's different from the actual link. --Kyuuketsukirui 08:40, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Er, like this: X-Philes --Kyuuketsukirui 08:41, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Or simply write X-Philes -> shows up as X-Philes as well. --lian 11:50, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, that's what I ultimately ended up doing, sending the link to X-Phile while renaming the link text to X-Philes, but I'm still interested in whether glossary terms should be created in plural or singular, or if they can somehow be tied together. It seems like it would save time if we knew linking to Newbie or Newbies would get the same result either way. --Punk 18:26, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
The easiest way is to create a redirect to the existing term, so both plural and singular links work, and wind up bringing people to the same page. To do that, create the page X-Philes, and in the edit box, just type: "#redirect X-Phile" (no quotes, and don't put anything else in it.) That should take care of it! --Arduinna 18:32, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Great! I can do that. I just didn't want to be making a lot of redirect pages if that wasn't the correct way to deal with it. --Punk 20:03, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

__

back to the original question of the standard: I'd think that unless the usage is overwhelmingly plural, the page name itself (i.e., the page where everything else redirects to) should be singular. E.g., the page Newbies begins with "A newbie is..." and describes the *concept*, not primarily a group of people, so it's not clear why the pagename itself is in the plural. --lian 07:36, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Correct. Please use the singular for page names rather than the plural. --rache 00:29, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
