Edward Elric is the protagonist of the manga and anime series Fullmetal Alchemist. He works along with his younger brother Alphonse Elric to try and bring their mother back through alchemy, which results in the pair altering or losing their bodies altogether and going on a quest to return to normal.

Canon

Edward is the older brother, and he cares very deeply for Alphonse, something that is often explored in fanfic. He can be brash, and hates people bringing up his small stature.

The canon pairing of Ed/Winry is fairly popular. In terms of slash pairings, Edward is commonly shipped with Roy Mustang (RoyEd), or with Ling Yao (EdLing). Edward Elric/Alphonse Heiderich (EdHei) is somewhat popular among fans of the 2003 series sequel movie Conqueror of Shamballa.
