Ling Yao is a character of the manga Fullmetal Alchemist, as well as the 2009 anime adaption (Brotherhood) and the 2022 live action adaption.
Canon
Ling is a son of the Emperor of Xing. At the start of the story, the emperor is in poor health and his many children are scheming for the best chances to succeed him to the throne. Ling decides to journey to Amestris and seek an elixir of immortality. While there, he meets the Elric brothers, and becomes involved in the fight against the homunculi.

Ling is a very popular character among the broader fandom, to the point that his absence from the old anime is used as a point in favor of the Brotherhood anime adaption among fans who argue over which anime adaption is better.[1] His relationship with/possession by the homunculus Greed is of particular interest among the fandom -- both Greelin (the character of Greed possessing Ling) and Greed and Ling together are popular subjects for fanworks.
