Dave Merrill joined organized anime fandom in 1984. He was a founding member of the C/FO Atlanta club, edited the anime fanzines Oxygen Destroyer and Celluloid Diversions, started the anime fandom history blog Let's Anime, and was a member and OE of Animanga APA. He was a founding director of the Anime Weekend Atlanta convention and is the creator of the Anime Hell event at this and other anime conventions.

Dave is still active in anime fandom, running several anime-themed blogs, as well as a a blog detailing the history of the Atlanta Fantasy Fair. He also takes part in various podcasts about anime and anime fandom and attends conventions as a GOH.

David Merrill was born in Georgia sometime in the 20th century. He's been cartooning since he was 6 and has self-published dozens of comics, zines, flyers, and libelous agitprop. Since 1995 he's been chairman of Anime Weekend Atlanta, the southeast's prominent Japanese cartoon festival. He created the "Anime Hell" event now seen at conventions and gatherings nationwide. His work has appeared in the anthologies DRUNK TANK and JUKU, as well as the annual publication for the FLUKE minicomics festival. David Merrill received a BFA in Illustration from Georgia State University.[1]
